• Everton complete the club-record signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson

Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson has secured his much-awaited move to Everton after they paid up a club-record £45m to Swansea City.

The 27-year-old played a key role for the Swans last term as they escaped relegation in the penultimate game of the campaign. Overall, Sigurdsson mustered nine goals and 13 assists in the top-flight, which is a near 50 percent contribution on the Swans’ goal tally last term.

Sigurdsson had opted out of the Swans’ pre-season tour of the United States earlier last month due to the impending interest, and the Toffees followed to make significant efforts in order to prise him away from the Liberty Stadium.

“Hopefully I will continue to create goals and score goals for the team and contribute to the kind of success we’re seeking at the club. This is an ambitious club and it is clear we are moving in a really good direction. The most important thing is that this team keeps winning games and climbing the table — and does that throughout the season. For myself, I would like to score as many goals as possible and create as many goals for my teammates as I can. These are my targets,” Sigurdsson told Everton’s official website. (more…)

  • EVERTON GET PICKFORD AT LAST

Premier League side Everton have completed the deal for Jordan Pickford from Sunderland.

The Toffees had a slight issue with the move as the relegated team insisted on £30 million. Everton went back with another offer which the Black Catshave now accepted.

Sunderland would receive a guaranteed £25 million while the rest £5 million would be in add-ons based on appearance. The England U-21 star featured in 32 games last term. He was outstanding in a team that was churning out poor result. After their relegation to the Championship, it was likely that Pickford would exit the team.

Other teams signified interest but the fees were thought high. The Ronald Koeman led side persisted and eventually made Pickford the most expensive player in British history and the third in the world behind Juventus star Gianluigi Buffon and Ederson, who just joined Man City from Benfica few weeks back. Pickford is in Poland with England. He is expected to undergo a medical upon return to seal the deal. (more…)

  • EVERTON URGED TO BAN THE SUN AFTER ‘RACIST’ ARTICLE

Premier League side Everton FC are been urged to ban The Sun newspaper from press conferences and interviews involving the club.

Liverpool FC have already taken steps to that regard, following happenings since The Sun’s story on the Hillsborough disaster.

Kelvin Mackenzie was the editor of The Sun when it published a viral article titled: ‘Hillsborough: The Truth’ four days after the disaster during the 1988/89 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The incident recorded 96 deaths and over 700 injured – the worst in British sporting history.

The same Mackenzie wrote an inflammatory article where he compared Everton star Ross Barkley to a gorilla. The 23-year old Three Lions star was hit in the face in an “unprovoked attack” in a Liverpool bar. The article was published a day ahead of the 28th anniversary on April 15th, further angering fans.

The Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson condemned the articles amongst other soccer icons. The Mayor told the BBC that he has reported it to the police for a “racial slur.” (more…)

  • KOEMAN TO REPLACE LUIS ENRIQUE

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is reportedly the man to replace Luis Enrique of Barcelona as the Catalan outfit seeks a replacement.

An agent of fellow Dutch coach Frank de Boer has revealed that the Spanish club want Koeman to help Barcelona return to old impressive form.

Koeman has helped Everton gain stability and dream of breaking into the top six in the Premier League – a club that struggled last year. The Toffees are also on a seven game unbeaten run.

De Boer’s agent Guido Albers said that Koeman has been attracting attention of top clubs in Europe and that Barcelona is not excluded as they are seeking a change in management.

Koeman, who played for Barcelona between 1989 and 1995, was an assistant manager there as well from 1998 to 2000. He seems to have the prerequisite advantage over others, aside his brilliant run of recent for Southampton and Everton that might get him the job if the club advertises the role.

Koemn has hinted at the idea in the past and might be interested when done with the Everton project. (more…)

  • Ronald Koeman Targets Sixth Place after Win over Crystal Palace

Ronald Koeman has set his sights upon a top six finish in the Premier league after managing a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace during the weekend.

The result coupled with Manchester United dropping points against Stoke City mean that the blues are only five points behind the Red Devils. United currently occupy the sixth spot, but they will probably present the biggest competition to Everton. Jose Mourinho’s team are unbeaten in more than 10 games across all competitions. Everton bossKoeman, though, has seen his team win four out of the last five games.

This run comes after the team struggled for just over 2 months, after making a good start to life underKoeman. It now appears that Everton players are starting to understand their manager and vice versa. (more…)

  • Ronald Koeman Not Using Everton as Ladder for Barcelona Job

Ronald Koeman has rejected suggestions that he is at Everton only because it may be a stepping stone towards a potential move towards Barcelona.

The 53-year-old took over at Goodison Park in the summer. He replaced Roberto Martinez on a three-year contract. The move was surprising considering that he spent only two seasons at Southampton. In both campaigns, the Dutch manager enhanced his reputation by ensuring that Southampton overcame their financial troubles and still finished strongly in the Premier League. Since he has made an even better start at Everton, there are suggestions that he is on the lookout for a top managerial job, preferably Barcelona.

As a player,Koeman had his most successful spell with the Spanish club after spending six years at the Camp Nou. He was one of the main players in the Johan Cruyff styled Barcelona from 1989 to 1995. He made more than 150 league appearances for the club during this period. His Barcelona roots have even helped him become a manager. Upon finishing his career with Feyenoord in 1997, Koeman developed his first experience of club football management while serving as the assistant manager at Barcelona from 1998 to 2000.

This led to his first managerial job at Vitesse Arnhem.

It is not surprising if he is linked with the managerial job at Barcelona at some point in the future. “One time when I went to Valencia. They always speak about Koeman and Barcelona.

Everyone knows I have a relationship with Barcelona. Everyone says, ‘One day Koeman will be the coach in Barcelona’. You can’t say, ‘I go to Everton in one or two years, I go to Barcelona’. No. Why? Maybe Everton will be bigger than it now is. Maybe Luis Enrique is doing a fantastic job for the next three years and they don’t need a coach,” said Koeman.

  • MP MATHESON SAYS GREEN WAS “EVERTON SHADOW DIRECTOR”

Labour MP for Chester, Chris Matheson has accused Sir Philip Green of being a shadow director at Everton.

He spoke at a Culture, Media and Sport committee on governance of football. The Everton season-ticket holder made the revelation when he discussed “offshore entities” involved with football clubs while addressing the chairman of the English Football Association.

“I understand that Sir Philip Green had something of a role of shadow director at Everton, including having PwC [big four accounting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers] conduct an audit of the club and summoning the chief executive and the team manager to BHS headquarters to discuss transfer budgets,” Matheson said.

Green is facing serious calls that he be stripped of his knighthood due to the collapse of one of his former firms BHS.

“If someone has paid for some shares through someone else and through an entity in the British Virgin Islands, but isn’t a director, would that be a problem?” Matheson asked. Chief executive Robert Elstone has addressed the issue before saying:

“Those questions were wrong and shouldn’t be asked. To repeatedly be asked about where we lend from and where Philip Green is in all this is just wrong.”

Elstone made the comment during the club’s general meeting late last year as the club steadfastly denies links to Green. Matheson also asked Clarke about offshore companies that were linked with Everton.

“Do you know who or what is Vibrac? Do you know who or what is BCR Sports? Vibrac is an offshore entity… which I believe provided finance to Everton, West Ham, Fulham, Reading and Southampton.

“And I understand it has provided £150 million worth of finance to European clubs, including those clubs I just stated in 2013,” he said.

Matheson made other revelations about the offshore companies but Clarke denied being aware of the companies.

  • RONALD KOEMAN REACTS TO EVERTON DEFEAT

The Netherlands man Ronald Koeman believes some aspects of the team is fine by him but not the aspect showed against Bournemouth on Saturday’s 1-0 awful loss.

“I like several aspects of the team, I don’t like some and we will change that,” said Koeman.

His first taste of defeat in the English Premiership with Everton was an unexpected one. He declined to publicly pore over the various things that went wrong during the 1-0 loss on the South Coast, but he knows there are several challenges to overcome. If the Blues rise to second in the table gave anyone outside Goodison the impression they could stay there or thereabouts, this seemed to be the reality check.

The Toffees boss feels he needs more bodies, more options and more clarity on some of the issues affecting the side of the team, such as the best position to play Barkley and how to get the best out of Kevin Mirallas regularly with visible improvement.

Koeman realizes that the squad needs further fine-tuning; both on the training ground and when transfer period comes in January. He never expected his men to lose to Bournemouth and not any tougher team, considering past results against other teams in the league. He feels if Bournemouth could defeat them, then he has a lot to do both in improving the performance of the players and also addition of new able men. Koeman will need all their strength of character to triumph as he looks to curb the ‘sluggish starts’ that mean Everton’s otherwise fine beginning to this season.

Before the defeat, Everton were in second place, behind Manchester City. City have maintained their perfect start in the Premier League this term. Everton’s loss means Spurs are new runners-up behind City.
