Merseyside club Everton have surprisingly been linked with a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Gianlugi Donnaruma. Italian international Donnaruma is on course to leave the Rossoneri this summer at the end of his current deal which expires in a matter of a few weeks.
The Everton interest in Donnaruma was revealed by Italian news outlet Calciomercato. It was stated that the Toffees will make a move for Donnaruma if they appoint Italian football legend Andrea Pirlo as their new manager.
Pirlo made his managerial bow at Juventus last summer and he has been sacked from the job after just one season. He led Juventus to both the Coppa Italia and the Super Cup titles but the two trophies were not enough for him to stay on as the Juventus manager after the Turin giants finished third at the end of the season. Pirlo and Juventus were far from being title challengers as they only confirmed their place in the top four and next season’s Champions League on the final day of the season.
Juventus had won nine successive titles until the appointment of Pirlo last summer. The run came to an end thanks to Inter Milan. Pirlo was dismissed last month and former manager Maximiliano Allegri was named in his place two years after he was also dismissed. Allegri was without a managerial job for two years until his appointment as the Juventus manager for a second time this summer. He had led the Old Lady to five successive titles before his exit in 2019.
For Everton, the Merseyside giants are in search of a new manager after Carlo Ancelotti left to join Real Madrid and Pirlo is a possible replacement as per the aforementioned Italian news outlet.
