Ian Wright comments on playing Romelu Lukaku
Ian Wright says that Romelu Lukaku is well within its limits to express his desire to play Champions League football.
The Everton striker recently spoke about playing in this European competition on a regular basis. This has been interpreted as a desire to leave Everton at the end of the campaign since the Merseyside outfit are far from qualifying for this competition. Even though the club received new investment in the form of a billionaire owner, it remains to be seen if this move will translate into investment on the player front.
Lukaku desperately needs more support from his teammates in order to push for a top four place. The former Chelsea striker has already scored 25 goals for the club this season. He is considerably ahead of his teammates when it comes to number of goals scored. Any club would be interested in a player who can find the back of the net with such alarming consistency. The 22-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid. His father recently supported a move to United, which could see him reunited with José Mourinho. The Portuguese is odds-on favourite to take over from Louis van Gaal in the summer.
Lukaku, though, confirmed that he has no issues about working with Mourinho in the future.“The goals that he’s scoring and the rate he’s scoring, Everton should be around the top four and I think Martinez has a lot to answer for.If they carry on it that respect, why should Lukaku [stay]?I don’t think he’s been out of order. He’s scored his goals to fire them where they should be, but they’ve not got there and that’s down to the manager. His scoring the goals to warrant them [the comments],” said the former Arsenal striker giving his support to Lukaku.
